Redactive held the Plank Finals to mark ukactive's National Fitness Day

Today, 7 September 2016, is National Fitness Day. It is the largest nationwide celebration of physical activity, and it’s run by one of Redactive’s clients, ukactive.

To mark the occasion, and to encourage staff members to get active, we organised the Redactive Plank Finals…here’s how it went:

Anthony Moran, reigning champion, was notably absent – the pressure of matching his record clearly got too much. But it didn’t lessen the determination of other competitors to smash through the 5 minute barrier.

Everyone looked strong as the opening bars of Eye of the Tiger kicked in, and the first minute sped past. The second half of minute two proved too much for a certain Aaron Nicholls (sleep deprivation due to a new arrival perhaps?), swiftly followed by Jason Grant who appeared to be more interested in beating Aaron than achieving any time goals. Cheers from the crowd pushed Luke Colegate through to the 2.01 mark before he hit the deck, and then we were left with four.

Jo Marsh finished a very strong performance at 2.12, but it was left to Brian Grant to show the other directors how it’s done. With offers of a £50 bribe turned down, Brian caved at an admirable 2.32.

Truly in a league of their own, Vlad Harmanescu and Taran Blyth made planking look easy, sailing though minutes three and four. As the ten second countdown to 5 minutes commenced, so did the shakes, but both held on to break the 5 minute record and dropped simultaneously at 5.06. Seriously impressive planking!
